When my dog was alive, he had one outfit that he wore. It was a little red wool sweater that we put on him when it was very cold weather and it was time to go outside. That was it. However, some dogs have an outfit for every day of the week, and some dog owners revel in dressing their pets up. If you’re one of the latter, today is your day: National Dress Up Your Pet Day.
Welcome to every pet’s nightmare.
I wouldn’t say my dog’s sweater was something superfluous. It was a necessary nod to bad weather, like a bullet proof vest for a war dog. Not that my dog was spending hours out doors, but any protection against snow and freezing weather is necessary. I wouldn’t go out without a coat on; why should my dog have frozen in just his natural fur coat? Now if he was in a coat, hat, and shoes, that’s a little excessive.
