Robots do many hazardous jobs that humans used to do. Paint car frames, welding, reverse vasectomies… wait, reverse vasectomies? Yes, robots can even do delicate operations on the most personal of personal areas, and doctors at the University of Florida are crowing about their robot doctor, which reverses vasectomies at a world-record pace when compared with human physicians, with quicker recovery times to boot!
Still, that’s not exactly a job for your local robot physician. It’s much more expensive to have a robot surgeon do it, and humans will recover just as well when the surgery is done by hand; the process merely takes a bit longer. Robots aren’t even necessarily better at the procedure than a doctor with a microscope, simply faster. Something tells me that the longer recovery time is worth having a flesh and blood sawbones behind the scalpel.
