I’ve been doing a lot of shopping recently. Since my weight has stabilized at right about 185 pounds, I figured it was time to stop wearing stuff that’s too big for me and outfit myself in some proper clothes. While I’m not a germophobe, there’s just something about new clothes that gives me the creeps. I had a long discussion about this with a friend of mine; when I go out to try on new clothes, the first thing I do when I get home is take a shower. New clothes are covered in stranger germs.
I used to work at a department store. I remember how people used to come in on hot days, soaking in sweat, and then immediately go try in clothes. I remember how many people would come in after a long day of work, filthy with dirt and grime. Ugh. No thanks. Netflix DVDs are cleaner than unwashed new clothing. I could never wear something new out of the store.
Here’s a tip. If you want to make sure your new shoes are clean, or if you want to get the smell out of old shoes, put them in a plastic grocery bag and stick them in the freezer overnight. It won’t kill all of the germs, but it will kill a lot of them and make your shoes fresh and new again. Just spray a little deodorizer inside and you’re good to go!
