Metro, with their wonderful way with words, described it as the space rock of doom. Dr. Frank Ciampi was at his London, Virginia office, filling out paperwork. Little did he know he’d have a near-death experience. In a million-to-one event, a half-pound meteorite tore through his office, crash-landing just outside Examination Room #2, only 10 feet from where Ciampi had been working!
Meteors strike Earth all the time, but they rarely make it through the atmosphere, let alone hit something! It had been traveling at nearly 220 miles an hour when it smashed into the office, and would have killed anyone who had been standing under it. Amazing that it A) hit Dr. Ciampi’s office and B) didn’t hit anyone IN the office!
