You wouldn’t assume that a Roman Catholic priest would also be a shoplifter. If there’s one person store security can trust, it’d be him, right? Well, in the case of Rev. Steven Poole, a priest for two Catholic Churches near West City, Illinois, that’s not the case. Rev. Poole is charged with two counts of felony theft after he stole butter, a $60 sofa cover, and after picking up a $145 memory foam mattress for $31 after switching tags on it.
Police also found a stolen laptop power pack in the priest’s belongings, which suggest he’s done this kind of thing before. Not only that, but given the Church’s history of obstruction of justice, he’s probably done this at several other locations and each time he’s been secretly moved around to avoid discovery and further embarrassment. Of course, this might be his first time shoplifting, but given that he was smart enough to swap tags, I really doubt it.
