If you’ve bought a Toyota in the past 5 years, or are in the market for one, you’ll find that you won’t have much luck. Due to some serious issues with the accelerator pedal, not only is Toyota recalling 8 models of car, they’re also halting all sales of those models while they attempt to sort out just which ones have faulty pedals and which ones don’t. The company is expected to recall some 2.3 million cars in the United States alone.
While the recall is smaller than Toyota’s last recall, it’s a lot more serious. This time, the recall covers the ever-popular 2005-10 versions of the Avalon; 2007-10 editions of the Tundra and Camry; the 2008-10 model years of the Sequoia; the 2009-10 models of the Corolla, Matrix, and RAV4; and the 2010 Highlander. The move is expected to add to the company’s estimated 350 billion yen losses for the fiscal year.
I wonder how this will affect the Pontiac Vibe. For those not in the know, it’s a rebadged Toyota Matrix. Apparently, GM was told about the recall only 7 minutes before it was announced to the federal government! That had to have been an awkward call to make. “Hey guys, remember that car we let you sell with your badge on it? Yeeeah, it’s kind of killing people. Sorry about that!”
