If you’re wondering what the big deal about Apple’s latest launch is, I’ve got your answer. Well, okay, I don’t personally have your answer, but I know people that can point it out to you. Basically, the Apple iPad is something designed to fill in the product gap between a full-sized computer, e-reader, and a smart phone. It’s like an iPod Touch or iPhone, just more expensive and with a slightly different skill set. At least it’s going to be pretty, right?
So why all the hype for a device that’s kind of like a netbook you can’t fold closed when you’re done with it? Well, it’s Apple. Every time the company does something, hoopla follows. They’re the best marketing company in the world; they also just happen to put out consumer electronics, too.
Where this device will prove interesting is in the field as an e-reader. We already know how well the iPod Touch does all the things the iPad is going to do; the question is, how will the iPad stack up to dedicated e-readers like the Kindle and Nook? We might have a new technology war on our hands!
