In a country with a giant gender imbalance, huge population, and highly competitive atmosphere, it’s no surprise that people have trouble finding time to socialize. With the bar scene being sleazy and the Internet being troublesome to access in China, there has to be a better way for lonely couples to meet. Well, why not pop on down to the love supermarket and browse the aisles for Mr. or Ms. Right?
At the “I’m Looking For You” market, you won’t find any food, just potential dates. It’s basically a giant dating service, with a thousand applicants. Since it opened on China’s Single’s Day (November 11, 2009), it has successfully matched 50 couples, but more importantly, it has given hope to thousands of lonely Chinese that they might one day find their perfect partner without the pressure that comes from a singles bar.
