It was not without some difficulty that Sadie, the Scottish terrier, won the best in show title at the 134th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York’s prestigious Madison Square Garden last night. After all, while Sadie was the front-runner going in after winning the Purina Nationals and the Eukanuba Championships, no dog can properly prepare for protesters. Just like in previous years, people disrupted the dog show; this time, they ran into the ring holding signs reading “Mutts Rule” and “Breeders Kill, Shelter Dogs Rule.”
Still, nothing could deter Sadie and handler Gabriel Rangel, who came home with the top prize last night. This was just one of hundreds of best in show titles, cementing Sadie as one of the most decorated pooches of all time and a shoo-in to star in Best In Show 2, should they ever make it. She bested 2,573 other canines last night to become top dog.
