Who says religion and fighting don’t mix? If you’re Pastor Brandon Beals of the Canyon Creek Church in Lynnwood, Washington, it’s a combination you try to make work. He’s in charge of the church that is known as Fight Church, a church that hosts MMA event viewing parties and even sponsors MMA fighters like Demico Rogers in an attempt to reach out to the MMA fighting community and men in general. It’s all an attempt to recruit new members and show that Jesus wasn’t some weak-willed hippie picking flowers in Bethlehem.
“Jesus was someone who never gave up, he never quit,” said Fight Pastor Beals. “That’s what MMA fighters do. That’s what we’re all called to do.”
Of course, nail-chewing toughness isn’t the sole aspect of their message, as it’s also a traditional church. MMA is just a conversation starter, and a very interesting one. I’m not exactly sure how pounding someone else’s brain into pudding is part of a Godly lifestyle, but if he can justify it in the Bible then I guess it’s okay.
