I have to confess that I’m a huge fan of Betty White. It seems like the older she gets, the funnier she becomes, and it’s not like she wasn’t funny when she was in her heyday on programs like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but starting with The Golden Girls and running through her appearances in things like Lake Placid, the $100-million dollar picture The Proposal, and her recent Snickers commercial with Abe Vigoda, it seems like Betty White is the hottest property in Hollywood at the moment, and there’s a big push to get her a spot guest-hosting Saturday Night Live.
While nobody’s called Betty, she says she’d do it provided she could work it into her busy schedule. Here’s hoping Lorne Michaels heeds the call, because I’d return to NBC just to watch Betty White do her thing with the Not Quite Ready For Prime-Time Players, and I know I’m not alone. Who would have ever thought that an 88-year-old woman would be the most popular figure around? I’d imagine no one is as mystified by this as Betty is.
