Hey you! Yeah, you! C’mere, kid. I know what you want. You want what everybody wants, a shot at immortality. You want to be in the Guinness World Records annals, right? Sure, we all do. If I might suggest an easy way to get in Guinness without having to learn how to swallow swords, blow balloons up with your nose, or engineer the world’s best light bulb? Try this eBay auction. It’s the contents of the International Banana Club Museum.
It’s a funny story, since it’s about the world’s largest collection of junk all related to one fruit, but it’s also kind of a sad story. Ken Bannister, the real estate agent who started the banana museum, has been forced out of exhibition space at the Harrison Exhibit Building in Hesperia, California. Left with nowhere to take his banana memorabilia, he’s listed the whole thing on eBay. He’s even dropped the price from $45,000 to a very reasonable $15,000 in the hopes that some museum will sweep in and buy up the whole kit and caboodle.
Chiquita Banana Lady, if you’re out there, it’s time to be a guardian angel.
