In 2000, Angie Sanselmente Valencia was crowned as Colombia’s “Queen of Coffee.” Since then she’s been a runway model specializing in lingerie. Oh yeah, in her spare time? She’s also built one of the largest drug empires in the world, according to international authorities who have issued a warrant for her arrest. Last year, at age 30, she is believed to have quit modeling all together, moved to Argentina from her native Colombia, and started a gigantic drug cartel where she used beautiful women, all former models and beauty queens, to move large amounts of cocaine from Buenos Aires to Mexico.
We’re not talking about normal mules, either. Valencia’s beauty queen drug runners were moving lots of product at once. One former model was apprehended with 55 kilograms (about 121 pounds) of cocaine on her person. When caught, she promptly blew the lid off Valencia’s clever scheme. Each mule was paid about $2000 dollars US per shipment, and one big shipment of cocaine went out from Valencia’s warehouses every 24 hours.
This was no passing fancy; this is a serious business. The belief is she got her inspiration from a former boyfriend, a drug kingpin in Mexico nicknamed The Monster. And to think, some people say that models are dumb!
