Tran Van Hay, who died at age 79, started growing his hair more than 50 years ago because he’d often feel sick after getting haircuts, according to his wife Nguyen Thi Hoa. It goes without saying that if something makes you feel sick, you probably shouldn’t do it. That’s the origin of what is believed to be a record-setting mane. While we’ve seen some pretty impressive hair achievements thanks to women like Asha Mandela, but this guy’s hair is something else. No one is really sure how long it might be, but it is estimated to be over 22 feet long.
If so, that would be a new Guinness World Record. The current record holder, China’s Xie Qiuping, has hair that is about 18 feet long. Van Hay’s hair weighs several pounds, and he was often seen on the streets of his home town in Kien Giang, Vietnam, walking with his hair bunched up onto his head like a basket. It was so long and thick that riding in Vietnam’s motorcycle-based taxi services was impossible due to his inability to wear a helmet, so Van Hay got really good at walking.
