One of the things about stealing stuff from inside parked cars is that there’s usually a lot of stuff, but not all of it is worth taking. That’s why 19-year-old Stefanie Vargas and her 13-year-old accomplice spent their time talking about when rummaging through a parked car outside a Daytona Beach, Florida, night club. Unfortunately for the two criminals, police got their conversation on tape, because one of them accidentally called the cops on a cell phone while robbing the cars.
Apparently, police dispatchers were able to sit and listen to the pair’s entire conversation, and even recorded it all for posterity. That’s going to make taking this case to court a lot easier. When police arrived, they found the 13-year-old in the vehicle they were robbing, and stopped the two before they could make an escape. Butt-dialing solves another crime!
That’s why I’m glad I’ve got a clamshell phone, rather than one of those open-face candy bar phones. While it makes typing my novel a lot slower, it keeps me out of the trouble caused by dialing mistakes.
