It’s tough to run a small business these days. You’ve got Starbucks over one shoulder, increasing cup sizes, and the economy over the other shoulder, decreasing people’s mad money. You’ve got to do something to get a little attention and maybe increase your customer base. If you’re Jason Bernal of Perky Cups, a coffee shop in Aurora, Colorado, you strip down to get attention. Not Bernal himself, just the bikini-clad model on his sign.
City officials are decidedly not pleased by the scandalous barista sipping from an extra-large mug with an extra-small bikini top on, but it could have been a lot worse. For one thing, it’s a modest bikini; there could’ve been much more skin on display. Bernal’s sign is completely legal, and it actually is increasing customers for his coffee and burrito-based bistro, but Bernal is not sure how long he’s going to keep his bikini banner flying. After all, he wants to keep his business going, but he wants to be a good neighbor, too.
