One of the traditions of the old Yankee Stadium that didn’t seem to last too long was the bowl game. That’s right; there was a little-known college football bowl game that took place at Yankee Stadium called the Gotham Bowl, and there were also a few random bowl games before that one took place. The last college football bowl at the old Yankee Stadium was on December 15, 1964, in which Nebraska beat Miami 36-34. Now, there’s going to be a new bowl game at the new Yankee Stadium called the Pinstripe Bowl. Here’s what we know so far.
The Pinstripe Bowl is going to be sponsored by New Era, the company famous for its sports apparel and baseball caps. It’s going to feature the #3 team in the Big East and the #6 team in the Big 12, not counting the BCS participants. It’ll take place no earlier than Christmas and no later than New Year’s Day. New Era is on board for 4 years; ESPN has 6 years of broadcasting rights.
Just what the world needs, another meaningless late-December bowl game! At least this one will be in an awesome location.
