I have to admit, I’ve heard about this before now, but I had no idea that it was legitimately believed to be a medical treatment. Apparently, folks are lining up 50 deep to receive bee sting therapy at clinics like that Kang Tai Bee Clinic in Beijing, China. Patients go and are evaluated by trained doctors who determine how many bees to apply, and where they should be applied. The theory is that the bees will sting on the proper pressure points, and provide relief for various ailments.
The bee venom is a crucial aspect of the treatment, says Wang Jing, a doctor at the facility. “This treatment relies mainly on the bees’ poison, which can help blood circulation, reduce inflammation and ease pain.” The benefits of bee sting therapy are seen most immediately in patients with arthritis, poor blood circulation, and various other bone and joint diseases.
The treatment is seen by devotees as more effective than modern medicine, and at $18 per visit, it’s also much cheaper than seeing a real doctor. No government health care plan needed!
