At 74, Gerry Burks not is your typical elderly man in a lot of ways. He doesn’t drink or smoke, and he keeps active by taking care of his 40-year-old wife Dawn, and his two youngest children, six-year-old Daniel and new baby Ryan. That’s right, at 74, Gerry is Britain’s oldest father. The cause of all his virility, aside from having a wife nearly 35 years younger than himself? Bananas.
Gerry credits his healthy and vigor to his love of bananas, which he eats on a daily, sometimes more often, basis. “I eat lots of bananas and always have done – sometimes a couple a day. I don’t eat much salt and have home-cooked food. Maybe that’s what’s kept my body healthy. But I think the love of a good woman, my Dawn, has a lot to do with it, too. I’m just doing what comes naturally.”
He must be onto something, because he still walks the dog every morning, worked until he was 71 years old, and still has a lot of energy where it counts. I imagine Ryan will get a lot of bananas in his baby food, when the time comes for him to move to food. After all, it’s the secret to good health and life-long virility!
