As the old saying goes, money is the root of all evil. I just don’t think it’s literally the root of all evil, as two swindlers from Chicago have proclaimed. By telling a Park Ridge, Illinois, woman that she had gotten some cursed money and that the curse had spread to all her other money, 61-year old Laura Santini and her 35-year-old daughter Rosann managed to swindle $62,000 in ‘cursed money’ out of an otherwise innocent dupe.
“They basically were able to convince the victim that some money she had gotten was cursed money and that somehow that curse had transferred to other money that she had,” Chicago police Detective Milorad Sofrenovic said. “They told her that in order to be able to remove this curse, they needed to take this money physically to a shrine in Indiana and with prayers drive the curse from the money.”
Must’ve been a Cubs fan; if they’ll believe the curse of the Billy Goat, they’ll believe in just about any curse story you can tell them. “Hey, your money is cursed, I need to take it to Indiana!” Because Indiana is famous for its voodoo shrines, human sacrifice pits, and decursing temples, apparently.
