Were you one of the millions of people affected by McAfee’s broken antivirus patch that caused their antivirus program to mistakenly identify the harmless Windows file svchost.exe as a piece of malware? If so, you’re not alone. While the company spin is that only a few people were affected, it’s hit more people than even I expected. Well, if you’ve had to pay for computer repairs, don’t worry. McAfee says they’ll pay for any and all computers their software damaged.
At least this time around.
The steps haven’t been announced yet, but once they go live I’ll share them with you. They’re only for home users of Windows XP that were affected, not corporate users. Still, if you have a home office and your computer got sidelined by McAfee’s mistake, you’ll be able to get back what you spent to repair the computer. Now if only they could reimburse me for all the time I had to waste putting right what they did wrong, then we’d be onto something.
