It must be awful to be an exceptionally tall teenager. For example, take the case of young Billy-May Thorpe. Despite being only 12 years old, she’s already 5’4. Because of her unusual height, she was officially banned from the kids menu at China East restaurant in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK. She was a staggering 9 inches over the restaurant’s 4’7 limit for ordering off the children’s menu. Now I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in America, but apparently it’s a common thing in the UK as there was a 10-year-old boy, Ben Gardner, who got banned from the children’s menu at a Chinese place in Gloucestershire.
It’s not as if Billy-May was thrown out; she still got to eat, but her mother had to pay full price for her meal at the (I assume) buffet. The restaurant’s manager, Bobby Cheung, is sticking to his guns: “It’s company policy and she was a lot over the child height restrictions. We have a notice at the door on how we charge.”
I imagine poor Billy-May is mortified at all this attention over her height. Kids can be cruel, and even tall kids aren’t immune to taunts and teases.
