It’s strange to see a league determine the draft order before the season is over. Normally, in a professional sports league, the worst teams pick first, and whoever wins the championship picks last, with all the other teams slotted into appropriate spots based on their win total. The NBA draft lottery is so much more random than that, with losing giving teams a percentage adjustment in the race for the number one pick, and all the teams that didn’t make the playoffs getting some shot at landing basketball royalty. That’s how the Washington Wizards ended up with the top pick in the 2010 NBA Draft; here’s the complete draft order from the NBA Fanhouse.
The Wizards will end up drafting Kentucky’s John Wall first. Wall will be one of four or five Wildcats drafted in the first round, followed by DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, and Daniel Orton. Eric Bledsoe will also be drafted, though perhaps not in the first round. As a Kentucky fan, it’s great to see those guys make the league, but it’s a shame to see them leave the program.
