When Paul Tenuto landed a whopper of a fish while fishing off the pier in beautiful Pensacola Beach, Florida, he had to be excited. Catching a fish is hard, and when you land something good and do it in an honest manner, it’s got to bring a smile to your face. In order to drag the beast onto the dock, he asked his wife Patricia to capture the fish in a net and drag it up onto the pier. However, that situation was reversed and the fish dragged Patricia off the pier and into the ocean!
“The fish was in the net, almost to the pier, and it had a burst of energy,” Patricia said. “And it pulled me in with it. I was just hoping a boat wasn’t coming.” She held onto the pier while her husband alerted the authorities, who sent lifeguards to rescue Patricia via personal watercraft. “Falling off (the pier) is always in the back of your mind, but it … happened this time,” said Paul. “I didn’t know what to do.”
Well, I guess you couldn’t get the net and fish your wife out of the water since, you know, she probably took that with her when the fish pulled her in. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often, given just how big and strong some fish can be. Plus, leaning out over the ocean from on top of a pier just seems like asking for trouble.
