There’s something I’ve always wondered. Since I started paying attention to sports like the Tour de France, I’ve always wondered just how those guys can power themselves through such a long and difficult bike ride. I mean, if I go swimming or run on the treadmill, I’m usually starving afterwards, so how exactly do these guys do it? Well, here’s a typical menu for the average professional rider in the Tour de France, as compiled by LiveScience.
The race covers 2,200 miles and takes three weeks, with only a couple of days off for the riders to rest and recover. That’s got to be draining on even the most fit of competitors. I couldn’t even begin to imagine that. It sounds like torture to me, yet Lance Armstrong has won seven Tours AFTER fighting off cancer. The endurance these guys have is phenomenal. I couldn’t even last a day, and that’s if you let me train for six months.
