When the Cardiff Botanical Society spent $120,000 to erect a statue of a surfer in the San Diego suburb of Cardiff-By-The-Sea, California, they never thought they were building a magnet for vandalism. However, since it was erected in 2007, the $120,000 statue “Magic Carpet Ride” has become better known by the name The Cardiff Kook for the array of dresses, masks, shirts, hats, bikini tops, and other items of clothing the giant bronze statue has been spotted wearing. And now, the Cardiff Kook statue has been eaten by sharks.
Overnight, pranksters have designed and placed a giant papier mache great white shark by the statue so it looks as if the bronze surfer is being swallowed whole by a massive Jaws-like shark. San Diego County police say no charges will be filed in this latest prank, because no damage was done to the statue. Still, the Cardiff Kook lives up to his name, one more time!
