Southwest Airlines is in trouble, yet again. Once more, there are waves being made about the airline and its policy of size discrimination between customers. Rather than booting off another chubby customer, as they did when they threw Kevin Smith off the plane, now they’re turned their practices on the slim and trim! A skinny woman was removed from the Southwest Flight leaving Las Vegas for Los Angeles because a fat passenger needed an extra seat.
The woman, who did not want her name released for fear she’d be branded as insensitive, is 5’4 and 110 pounds, so she’s one of the few people who can actually fit comfortably in an airplane seat. The person she was bumped for, an obese 14-year-old girl, actually only had one seat purchased for her by parents (rather than the standard two), but the skinny woman was flying standby. Hence, she gets bumped, though she didn’t get a choice in the matter like most people normally do in that situation.
“We know this was awkward and we should have handled it better,” said Southwest spokeswoman Marilee McInnis, who is a master of stating the obvious. I mean, the slim chick could’ve just hopped in the overhead compartment for the ride, like the above toddler! It’s the perfect solution!
