Ron Sveden has been fighting off various illnesses for a long time. Stricken with emphysema, he’s no stranger to difficulty breathing and occasional pain, but when his health took a turn for the worse on Memorial Day, his wife Nancy called 911 and got an ambulance to rush Ron to the hospital. He was certain he had cancer; however, according to doctors what made Ron Sveden sick was a pea pod growing in his lung.
The pea had been growing in Ron’s lung long enough to go from an individual pea to an inch-long pea plant sprout, which is amazing when you consider how long the fir tree sprout was found in a different man’s lung. It could have been even worse, as the guy who inhaled a pointy plastic end of a Wendy’s spoon found out. I guess inhaling your food is a bad idea. Fortunately, Ron’s been more careful since then.
“Whether this would have gone full-term and I’d be working for the Jolly Green Giant, I don’t know. But, I think the thing that finally dawned on me is that it wasn’t the cancer,” said Sveden. “One of the first meals I had in the hospital after the surgery had peas for the vegetable. I laughed to myself and ate them.”
