Where there’s a will, there’s a way. A 22-year-old Chinese inventor, known only as Maxpy (his online handle), wanted an iPhone. However, like most people in China, the iPhone was just way too expensive for him to purchase on China’s burgeoning black market, so he got a little creative. He invented an accessory that converts the iPod Touch into an iPhone, calling it the Apple Peel 520.
How does it work? Well, basically, it’s a framework that fits around your iPod Touch. Inside that is a battery, connection device, and a SIM card that allows you to make phone calls. There’s also software included that helps you jailbreak your iPod touch to force it to act as a phone. Of course, it’s not perfect, but neither is Apple’s legitimate iPhone. On the Apple Peel, there’s no 3G, a slight lag time making calls, and no way to delete text messages. At least the antenna is in the right place, right?
Other than that, it’s a $57 solution to a $500 problem. Assuming you already have an iPod Touch, you’ve already taken care of the biggest expense of the Apple Peel 520.
