James Jay Lee, the protestor seen above, has had a long history of having a grudge against The Discovery Channel. The network, Lee believed, wasn’t doing its part in promoting environmentalism. Specificially, James Jay Lee’s extreme brand of environmentalism, zero population growth, which says that humans are a scourge on the earth and that people should not have children as a way to conserve resources and protect the earth. That’s what caused James Jay Lee to storm The Discovery Channel’s head office in Silver Springs, Maryland, yesterday with what is believed to be a bomb strapped to his chest. Fortunately, 1900 employees escaped the building safely and Lee was shot and killed by the police department before he could harm anyone.
Lee was inspired in equal parts by Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and Daniel Quinn’s environmentalist novel Ishmael, which caused him to start his one-man crusade against the Discovery networks. He was the founder of a group called Save the Planet Protest, whose website reads: “Only we, the people, can demand change. Only we can demand from the world that they start making positive changes starting with Discovery Channel’s programming. If there is ANY network whose responsibility it is to save the planet, it’s the Discovery Channel. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies!”
Well, fortunately, police helped him in his quest to lower the population of the Earth by one person when they shot him, and stopped him from hurting anyone else with his environmental mania.
