The Commonwealth Games, an Olympics-style event held every four years for the nations of the former British Empire, is one of the most important events on the calendar for its hosts in the Indian city of New Delhi. Unfortunately, it seems as though nobody really thought about India’s environment before they agreed to hold the games there, because athletes are being terrorized by poisonous snakes and angry monkeys wherever they go, despite the best efforts of trained langur monkeys and snake charmers.
That’s right, they need snake charmers and trained fighting monkeys to protect some of the world’s best athletes from India. Apparently, New Delhi is practically infested with angry monkeys who have started to attack women and children in response to India’s cutting down the trees at their stadium sites. The langur monkeys are trained to keep hordes of rhesus monkeys at bay, and the snake-charmers are deployed near the athlete’s village, which just so happens to be in a snake-filled area. Already, athletes in Talkatora Stadium and Shvaji Stadium have been terrorized by monkeys, and a 3-foot-long cobra slithered through the tennis stadium.
The Commonwealth Games have suddenly become very interesting.
