Never pick a fight with a guy carrying a gun. That’s generally good advice. However, when the person you’re fighting with is carrying the official sidearm of Dirty Harry, a .44 caliber pistol loaded with Magnum rounds, you’re extra-advised not to mess with him. William Michael Paine Jr. was on the way to his girlfriend’s house in Marysville, Tennessee, to have a few drinks when the couple got to fighting. She told him, “No guns in the house.” In response, Paine shot his girlfriend’s couch full of holes.
The ensuing fracas must have been one for the ages. The girlfriend wrestles the gun away from Paine, only to be reminded that you always carry a back-up weapon when Paine pulled a knife. The knife got knocked from his hand by the home’s residents, and that was the time the police intervened before he could pull his back-up club. Still, it was too late for that innocent couch.
