It’s the moment that’s been months in the making. Ever since Conan O’Brien left the Tonight Show, I’ve been waiting for him to return to television. After his nationwide tour, after the lawsuits, after the months of waiting, now we’re finally getting Conan back. Conan, the new late-night talk show from Conan O’Brien, debuts on TBS tonight at 11 PM Eastern Time.
There’s going to be a lot of hype for this show, especially online where most of Conan’s fans have kept his name abuzz. I just hope it’s a good show. I mean, from what I’ve seen of the promotion and the little clips that have been released to market the program, Conan’s just as weird and funny as ever. Andy’s still involved, as are the former Max Weinberg 7 (now called the Basic Cable Band and without Max Weinberg). All the ingredients are still there, and TBS has been very supportive of Conan the entire time. I’m just not sold on jumping into the fray at 11 PM when there’s competition from both local news and The Daily Show/Colbert Report.
Still, if anyone can defy the odds and capture some audience from the Lettermans and Lenos of the world, it would be Conan. He’s a legitimate alternative to those two and their tired acts. The time slot seems bad, but since I don’t watch Jon Stewart, I’ll be sticking with Team Coco.
