On March 1, 1969, during a drunken performance at Miami’s Key Auditoriums, the lead singer of the Doors was arrested after someone alleged that he had exposed himself on stage by unzipping his pants and pantomiming a sex act. However, there was no proof that any of this actually happened; Morrison was acquitted of lascivious behavior and drunkenness, but convicted of indecent exposure and open profanity. He was still fighting his six month jail sentence when he died in Paris at age 27. Jim Morrison may be pardoned, 40 years after the fact. Florida Governor Charlie Crist may consider a pardon for the long-dead Rock and Roll Hall of Famer during his final weeks as governor of the Sunshine State.
“It’s something that I haven’t given a lot of thought to, but it’s something I’m willing to look into in the time I have left,” Crist told U.S. Congressional newspaper The Hill. “Anything is possible. Stay tuned.” Crist lost a run at the United States Senate to Tea Party candidate Marco Rubio. Governors have a tendency to renege on these pardon offers, as Billy the Kid could tell you.
