The scene started out as a peaceful protest against rising tuitions. An estimated crowd of 50,000 too to the streets of London, England, to march, wave signs, and generally complain about the government’s latest fee hike pushed off on students. Then, according to some reports, leftist militant groups hijacked the protest, turning it from a peaceful demonstration to a full-on riot as the assembled converged on 30 Millbank, the home of Britain’s Conservative Party, and started to smash the place up.
The photos of the incident are incredible, especially those captured by the Daily Mail. You would’ve thought Tila Tequila might have shown up judging by the way people were freaking out. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt despite all the smashing and burning things.
The kicker to all this is the students are protesting a rise in fee cap from 3000 to 6000 pounds, with a ceiling of 9000 pounds. Converted, 6000 pounds is about $9600 dollars using today’s exchange rate. That’s per year, not per semester. Are these kids so spoiled they don’t know how cheap their education is? That’s nothing! If I only had to pay that much a year I could’ve gone to an Ivy League school!
