Well, that was fast. A few weeks after the alcoholic energy drink Four Loko appeared in the national consciousness by making nine partiers sick, the drink known as “liquid crack” or “black-out in a can” has already been the recipient of its first banning. Then, a few hours later, it was banned in a second state! Recently, Four Loko was banned in Michigan. Shortly thereafter, Four Loko was banned in Washington state, where this problem all began. The two states joined Utah, California, and Montana in banning or restricting sales of alcoholic energy drinks.
Of course, the states can’t just ban one specific brand of alcoholic beverage, they have to ban an entire class of alcoholic-type beverages. Michigan’s ban will eliminate the sale of 55 types of alcoholic energy drink, which is a staggering number. I had no idea that many people wanted to replicate the Red Bull and vodka sensation in a can!
