Call it a copycat crime after the zombie warning system in Austin, Texas. Police in Marana, Arizona, a town north of Tucson, Arizona, responded to calls after it was discovered that highway construction signs had been hacked by pranksters to warn motors of upcoming zombie hordes. It’s a great warning, if it’s needed; apparently in this case, there were no roving undead in the area.
“We didn’t get any complaints or any other problems in the area… (and) no reports of zombies,” said Sergeant Chris Warren of the Marana Police Department. “Sometimes those boxes are just left open and if somebody knows how to do it they can just go over to it, open it up and just start typing.”
Apparently there was a bit of a rush, as the message was misspelled to read, “Caaution Zombies ahead.” Still, it’s a more effective warning than a simple eat my shorts sign hack. After all, zombies are dangerous, underwear is generally helpful.
