In 1967, The Monkees did it. In 1969, The Beatles did it. In 2010, Susan Boyle has done it. No, I’m not talking about LSD (though that’s probably true for the first two acts). Susan Boyle has become the first woman, and the first musical act in 40 years, to top both the US and UK music charts at the same time. Boyle’s latest release, a Christmas music CD titled The Gift, is at the top of the music charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
Of course, Boyle’s success isn’t terribly surprising, but knowing that she’s the first woman to ever top both pop charts at once is amazing. I mean, Whitney Houston never did that. No other Internet singing sensation has done that. Only two other legitimate musical acts have accomplished this staggering feat.
Yes, SuBo sold 10+ million records worldwide with her debut album, but this is uncharted territory. It’s not even a new album, it’s just an assortment of Christmas tunes! Boyle has to be the most successful talent show winner ever.
