It’s the middle of hot stove season. Every winter, baseball executives, agents, and players gather in Florida to meet, discuss issues, vote on things, and most importantly, sign free agents. One of these potential free agents, Luke Scott, sat down with the Yahoo Sports Answer Man, David Brown, and gave an interview. The highlight of Luke Scott’s interview seems to be the part where he proclaimed that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
That’s right, Scott is one of those right-wing conspiracy nut birthers. He also really knows his firearms and is very proud of his Scottish heritage, but that’s not what anyone’s talking about. He apparently won’t be happy until he sees Obama’s real birth certificate, not a certificate of live birth.
Here’s my question: why did you even ask this guy about politics? I mean, besides the fact that his love of hunting and guns makes it pretty clear which way his politics lean and you wanted a controversial response. I feel bad for the guy, just because I know that he’s going to get pilloried for this and lambasted as ignorant. He might be wrong about Obama’s birth certificate, but it’s not like he’s Carl Everett saying that dinosaurs never existed.
Can’t we just ask ball players questions related to playing ball and leave the political discussions to the clowns in office?
