There are very few places people are not allowed to use their phones. Personally, I feel that the list should be longer, but when it comes to airplanes, using the phone is pretty much forbidden. Even airplane mode use can get you into trouble, so generally it’s best to turn the phone off until you’re in the air. When a 15-year-old boy refused to turn off his iPhone despite the Southwest Airlines cabin crew telling him to do so, Russell Miller took things into his own hands and smacked the teenager with the back of his hand to get him to put the phone down.
Miller implied that he “felt he was protecting the entire plane and its occupants,” said Lt. Kent Lipple of the Boise police. He says he smacked the boy lightly with the back of his hand, but there was a mark on his shoulder when police showed up at the airport. Miller was arrested after the plane from Las Vegas to Boise, Idaho landed. Fortunately, things didn’t get out of hand and become a full-on fist fight at 30,000 feet.
