It was as sudden and devastating as a bomb blast. In fact, neighbors thought it was a bomb blast when William C. Franks Furniture in Wayne, Michigan, blew up with a thunderous blast. As it turns out, the William C. Franks Furniture explosion was caused by a gas leak. Two bodies were recovered from within the store; the store’s owner, Paul Franks, was removed from the store at the scene and transported to the University of Michigan’s burn trauma center. He is in serious but stable condition.
The worst part of the issue? Consumers Energy was aware of the gas leak and even had technicians in the area trying to locate the source of the leak when the explosion happened. Had they gotten to the store in time, or had someone in Franks Furniture realized there was a gas leak, none of this would have happened. Consumers Energy was first called about a possible gas leak at 6:15 AM and again at 7:45. It was during the investigation of the second call when the explosion happened.
