It’s got to be wonderful to have a steady job for most of your adult life, and Regis Philbin has been one of the lucky ones. Philbin has been on television every day for the last 28 years as co-host of the incredibly popular morning show Live! with Regis and Kelly (and before that, Live with Regis and Kathie Lee). The daily grind will be coming to an end for the steady member of the show, as Regis Philbin announced yesterday that he will be retiring from Live with Regis and Kelly.
“Everything must come to an end…especially with certain old people,” said the 79-year-old Philbin during yesterday’s broadcast of Live! “This is gonna happen sometime the end of the summer or fall — we’ll have a lot of fun between now and then!”
Regis has been with the show since its beginnings as a local television program in 1983. Regis hasn’t announced a final day yet, nor do we know who will replace him in the host’s chair. That said, whoever gets the gig will have some huge shoes to fill, as Regis is one of the most iconic television figures in the history of the medium, alongside fellow recent retiree Larry King.
