When an animal goes missing for longer than a few days, it’s only natural that you assume the worst. However, in rare instances, the assumption is an incorrect one (as in the case of the cat that returned home after 5 years missing). Consider the case of Archie. Over a year and a half ago, Archie disappeared from the home of his family: Chris, Julia, and Kelly Moran. One year and 184 days later (549 days in total), Archie the toy poodle was discovered and returned to his family.
“When we heard the news, we thought we were in a dream because when we lost him it was like being in limbo,” said Julia Moran, who turned 47 on the day Archie turned up. “It is the best birthday present I could ever have.”
As it turns out, Archie didn’t go too far. Archie was found in Oxford, England, some 100 miles from the Moran family home in Corringham, Essex. While Archie was filthy, he was healthy and well-fed, which suggests that someone else had been taking care of the foundling toy poodle while he was on an extended vacation away from his family. Dog wardens in Oxford checked Archie’s microchip and returned him to his family.
