When it comes to the Nobel Prize, it’s hard to tell who is going to win if only because the candidate lists are always kept a tightly-guarded secret. For example, US President Barack Obama’s Nobel Prize win came out of nowhere (mostly because he hasn’t done anything to earn it). However, one long-shot candidate to win the Nobel Prize has already been leaked to the media. The controversial website WikiLeaks has been nominated for the Nobel Prize.
“I think it is important to raise a debate about freedom of expression and that truth is always the first casualty in war,” said 26-year-old legislator Snorre Valen, of the Socialist Left Party, in a blog post announcement of his choice. “WikiLeaks wants to make governments accountable for their actions and that contributes to peace.” Valen also compared WikiLeaks to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year and spurred China to create the Confucius Prize in response.
