Romania, being the home of Dracula and being in the heart of superstitious Eastern Europe, has been leading the fight against witches. While Romania doesn’t use fire or hard labor for their witches, they do use the legal system. A month ago, Romanian witches were forced to pay taxes on their trade for the first time. Now, Romania is looking to toughen its witch laws, with witches facing fines and jail time if their predictions don’t come true.
“They can’t condemn witches, they should condemn the cards,” argued Romania’s so-called queen witch, Bratara Buzea, who added that when clients give false information, it throws off the magic of the cards. “I will fight until my last breath for this not to be passed. What about when the client gives false details about themselves? We can’t be blamed for that.”
In addition to fines and jail for faulty cards, witches also face other new legal hurdles should the law pass. Witches have to get permits to practice, provide customers with receipts, and would be banned from practicing near churches and schools. In short, Romania is wanting to turn witches into liquor stores.
