Robots can do a lot of awesome things, including frighten me and enter the job market, but one of the things that humans can do that robots cannot, it’s share information. Humans are social animals; our primary mode of learning is to communicate with one another. However, robots are generally independent units that don’t share amongst themselves. That is, until now. RoboEarth is a revolutionary communication system and database exclusively for robots, something akin to a robot Internet and robot Wikipedia.
“Wikipedia is something that humans use to share knowledge, that everyone can edit, contribute knowledge to and access. Something like that does not exist for robots,” said Dr. Markus Waibel of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the mind behind RoboEarth. “The key is allowing robots to share knowledge. That’s really new.”
That’s new… and BAD! Just imagine, when the first robot becomes self-aware, that knowledge will now spread to all the other machines! The next thing you know, it’s Maximum Overdrive and Emilio Estevez is shooting semis with a rocket launcher and it’s all your fault, Dr. Markus Waibel!
