Every year since 2002, the Valentine’s Bandit covers the capital of Vermont in paper hearts. The Montpelier Valentine Phantom struck again on Monday, plastering downtown Montpelier in white pieces of paper with giant red hearts on them. Fans flooded his or her Facebook page (Montpelier Valentine Phantom Phan Page) to thank the bandit for all the holiday cheer.
While it’s not as permanent as the love locks of Paris, it’s also a lot more beautiful and heartwarming than burning the Christmas goat. Not as body-warming, perhaps, but it’s incredibly sweet and wonderful nonetheless. The Valentine bandit hits up windows, buildings, and other downtown fixtures. The hearts are both wonderful and biodegradable!
You have to wonder what possesses someone to start a tradition like this. It seems as though police don’t care enough to track them down, which is great because that means the tradition can continue on unmolested. After all, what’s wrong with spreading a little bit of holiday cheer?
