Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Toyota is recalling 2.1 million vehicles due to floor mat issues causing gas pedal jamming. That’s right, the same problem Toyota has gotten its hand slapped over is back again (because they didn’t really fix it the first time). Here’s the list of cars being recalled: the 2006-07 Lexus GS 300 and GS 350; the 2004-07 Lexus RX 330, RX 350, and RX 400h; the 2004-06 Toyota Highlander and Highlander HV; 2003-2009 4Runner; the 2009-11 Lexus LX; and the 2006-10 Toyota RAV4.
Odds are this list looks familiar to you, because these are the same cars that Toyota has been recalling like crazy lately. For those that don’t remember, the Toyota recall efforts started well over a year ago, in September 2009. That’s when Toyota’s first recall due to unintended acceleration took place. The fact that this is a problem over a year and a half later suggests that Toyota has some serious design flaws with their so-called luxury brands.
I’m in dire need of a new car, as my Buick Century has recently given up the ghost. I don’t want to pay for a new car, but if someone gave me a free Toyota tomorrow, I’m probably going to trade it in the first chance I got for a different car. I’m not going to risk my life in some shoddily-built Toyota Deathwagon, thank you. I’m cheap, but I’m not THAT cheap.
