Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, impersonating a confused dog.

As a former president of the Sierra Club, Seattle mayor Mike McGinn is a huge proponent of bicycling and he’s been trying to make his Washington home more accessible to bikers of all ages and ability levels.  Even more impressively, Mayor McGinn practices what he preaches by bicycling into work, to meetings, and just around town when he wants to get around.  Or rather, he did until someone made off with his bicycle after he rode it into work.  Someone in Seattle stole Mayor Mike McGinn’s bicycle.

Well, actually, they stole Peggy Lynch’s bicycle; she’s McGinn’s wife and he was borrowing her wheels to get into work when the bike was taken from a city garage.  Mayor McGinn had donated his own bike to charity and was bumming the wife’s wheels until he could get a new one for himself.  Now he needs two new bicycles instead of just one.  Still, at least the mayor’s got a sense of humor about the crime.

Said Mayor McGinn via Twitter:  “I know I’ve been encouraging people to ride bikes more, but I didn’t mean u could ‘borrow’ my wife’s bike w/o asking.”
