In these increasingly tough times, people tend to look for others for guidance. One of the places folks tend to turn is the church, but the issue with that is there’s no convenience in this. You have to drive out to church, call ahead and make an appointment, and it’s generally a whole pain in the rear end for the modern person in need of counseling. Since the app solution may not be available, why not try aisle five? A deacon in Tyrol, Austria, is offering holy guidance at a local supermarket.
Deacon Willi Holzhammer has already set up a Facebook page, “Ask Willi,” where he keeps track of and takes questions of a religious nature. The counseling office hours at the supermarket, where Willi sets up every Saturday, are the next step in his goal of bringing religion to the masses in his Alpine parish.
When you think about it, it’s the next logical step for supermarkets, too. Even if it’s not religious counseling, then maybe some traditional types of counseling might work, depending on your location. At my local grocery store there’s everything from a hair cutting parlor to an optometrist to a doctor’s office and pharmacy; why not add a nook for a little one-on-one counseling while you’re shopping for beans?
